What is Traffic School?
In California, for certain types of moving violations you can opt for
pleading guilty to the violation and attend Traffic School. This
is an all-day weekend affair where, as I gather, they show you gruesome
films of the general theme "What Happens When You Drive Too Fast," and
give you a stultifyingly boring refresher course on basic traffic law and
good driving habits.
In exchange for your attendance, the court will take your money
and dismiss the citation.
What's the catch, you ask? You can only apply this option
to a single ticket once every 18 months. If you get two tickets within
an 18 month span, and you TS'd the first one, the second one is
going on your driving record unless you can fight it and win.
